Valentine’s Day Tablescape and Decor
I love putting together tablescapes. It doesn’t have to be a special occasion — I just like to style our living room table in a pretty way.
It’s so much fun to pull together items you already have, to think of new ways to use something you’ve had for years, and to combine that with a few new items.
That’s what I did for this Valentine’s Day tablescape idea.
I paired items I already had — vintage Valentine’s Day cards, a pink tablecloth, vintage napkins and teacups, little milk glass bowls, a tin, a red flower pot, and a mercury glass photo holder — with several new home decor items.

Since I had this tablescape in mind for the last few weeks, I kept picking up things for it when I was out and about.
I saw those red $1 plates and then found some interesting red gummy candy at the supermarket. I wanted to stay away from the classic little Valentine’s candy hearts with the sayings on it.
I use this shabby-chic frame a lot and simply added one of the vintage Valentine’s cards to it.
This white cake stand with red ribbon and Valentine’s Day chocolates are from HomeGoods. I also added one of my soy candles, a white tray from IKEA, and a few little hearts.
These old Valentine’s cards are so adorable and open up on the bottom so they stand and become three-dimensional.
Most of them have the name of the person they were for on the back, in charming children’s handwriting.
What a sweet little gift for your guests, right?
I had never used these two milk glass bowl before, and they were perfect for displaying the red candy. These old-fashioned sour candy drops were so yummy!
I also added some Valentine’s Day decor to our mantel.
The fake ivy plant and the orchids are from IKEA, and the big heart also from the supermarket. I’ve used the heart-and-star garland before, but this time I pinned Valentine’s Day cards to it.
The two white candle holders are recent thrifting finds.
I painted this little wooden box white, and it’s the perfect size for three vintage milk bottles.
That little picture of a Scherenschnitt (paper cutting) is the one thing I splurged on when I went to the American Craftsmen Show with my mom and brother.
It cost $50, but Pamela’s art pieces were so beautiful and unique, I really wanted buy one to remember the show and to support her craftsmenship. Even the frame is hand-painted.
Here is how I wanted every one of the plates to look: I was so excited to find these beautiful chocolate hearts at HomeGoods and had saved them for the plates.
I had hidden them from my two men because I was afraid they’d eat them before I’d get a change to photograph them — and then I forgot to add them before I took most of these pictures. Oh, well.
Once I was done, I let L and his little friends who were over for a playdate enjoy all the goodies.
As you can imagine, they were over the moon about all those sweets.
