Don decided to go to the Building Energy 13 conference in Boston.
Building Energy (BE) is the most cross-disciplinary renewable energy and high-performance building conference and trade show in the northeastern United States.
It’s like BlogHer for people in the building industry who are passionate about sustainability — so Don was like a kid in the candy store.
And L was literally a kid in a candy store: I might have pointed out to him that many exhibitor booths had candy when I wanted to make the rounds and L was less than amused. Just might have.
My husband is a skilled finish carpenter and project manager, but he’s passionate about doing more than just building or renovating people’s homes. He became a EPI-certified Building Analyst and wants to make a difference in the performance of homes and people’s utility bills, and in turn their use of gas and oil — and carbon footprint.
We decided to make this trip a family affair and I used the opportunity to test-drive a Tahoe Hybrid to get the three of us to Boston. Road trip!
While we were in Boston, another severe winter storm surprised us. By now everyone has noticed that climate change is real. Droughts, floods, storms– how much more will it take for us to change our ways?
Forget the saying, “Future generations will…” The next generation, our children, will have to deal with major weather-related and environmental disasters in their lifetime, and Don and I want to be part of the solution by doing our part and encouraging people to live more sustainable lives.

And even running through the extremely strong, icy wind to save money on the cab fare was fun, and sometimes comical.
