In this post, I want to inspire you to make your porch your favorite “room” of the house — check out these beautiful porch decorating ideas for spring.
I love my front porch. I don’t know what I would have done without my sweet little porch while I stayed home during the pandemic. I like to grab a coffee and a good book and sit in my rocking chair for an hour.
This is my porch. As you can see, I like decorating it in a vintage farmhouse decor style. Aside from sitting out there, I enjoy decorating it for every season.

Porch Decorating Ideas for Spring
This is my porch. You can often find me here when the weather is nice.
Here are 5 easy ways to update your own porch:
Add Seating: A Rocking Chair or A Bench
If you don’t have nice seating on your porch yet, what are you waiting for?
Rocking chairs or a nice bench are a very simple way to update your porch to make it even more enjoyable in the spring.
I inherited my rocking chair and painted it white. Here is a similar one.
Do you have space for a lot of furniture on your porch? I love this outdoor porch or patio set, and it’s soo affordable! I bought a similar set for our backyard.
The nice thing about outdoor furniture is that you don’t have to worry about them getting rained on. They’ll last for many years on the porch.
Wouldn’t it be nice to have all that seating on a porch?
Add Hanging Plants
The one thing I always look forward to once spring comes around after a long winter is buying two hanging baskets for my porch. I think of them as buying earrings for my little cottage.
Buying hanging plants are such an easy way to dress up a porch for spring and summer.
If you want to save some money, you could buy hanging plants with coco liner and fill them with flowers yourself every year.
If hanging plants don’t work on your porch, you can always add planter boxes on the ledges or plants on the steps.
Topiaries are also a lovely addition to a porch:
I have short ones, but I would like two taller ones for my front door eventually. Fake topiaries, of course, because I’d kill them in a second otherwise, ha!

Add Porch Curtains For Privacy or To Keep Rain Off Your Porch
Years ago, I added these DIY porch curtains to my porch. Check out my easy tutorial post about them.
It wasn’t so much because of privacy issues. I added the curtains because I was tired of always moving the furniture out of the way of rain so they wouldn’t get ruined.
Now the curtains are keeping the rain away from the porch. It’s a simple fix that didn’t break the bank.
I added shower curtain liners, and they are working fabulously! They also keep the snow off the porch in the winter.
I usually exchange them once a year because they are so inexpensive, and then I reuse the old ones for paint projects as drop cloths. It’s a win win.
Here are other porch curtain ideas:
Add Art Or Shelves to Your Porch
I’m in love with these little metal wall shelves.
These shelves would look adorable on my Blue Cottage porch or any porch. I always like to have more spots to decorate.
My shelves would be filled with knickknacks, though — you know me.
Add An Outdoor Rug To Your Porch
As you can see in this picture, I added an outdoor rug on my porch to make it look and feel more like an outdoor living space.
I’ve actually also repurposed indoor rugs that I replaced for newer – I figure why not get a little more life out of a rug out on the porch?
I’ve also added an outdoor rug to my pallet deck. It’s actually a camping mat and costs a fraction of what outdoor rugs can cost.
This outdoor rug made out of recycled plastic (win win!) comes in so many different colors and sizes, you will find the perfect one for your porch:
This one is reversible:
I hope I have inspired to make your porch an outdoor living space with one or all of these ideas! These tips would also work or any patio.
