Yes, I used embroidery hoops to create an instant gallery wall!

My office redo is almost done. When Don and Landon were in Washington for three days last week, I decluttered and organized the office, added the big pinboard to one side of the wall, and created this gallery wall on the other side.

The Many Antique Collections In My Mom’s House

I have to be honest: this post was going to be named My Mom’s House and Cottage Garden.

But after I started writing it, it became clear that I had to rename it. I had so much material about my parents’ many collections of antiques and vintage items alone, this post would’ve been way too long to also write about the garden.

We came back from visited my mom in Germany a couple of days ago. I made a point to take a lot of pictures of her house because it’s beautiful, and I wanted to show it to you.

She still lives in the house I grew up in until age 23. That’s when I packed two suitcases and moved from my childhood home all the way to Los Angeles to study acting. [Read more…]

My Doll Collection I Forgot About for Eight Years

This box was packed eight years ago, and moved four times — once across the country from Los Angeles to Westchester, NY, and three times in Westchester.

The “L” on it means living room, and this was the eights box of about 100 I packed into two rented PODS in Los Angeles.

Landon was six month old, and I flew with him to New York, while Don drove his truck cross country. My car and the PODS made it to Westchester a few days later, and that started our life here, close to Don’s family.

I liked living in Los Angeles for 10 years, but I haven’t missed or regretted our move for one second.

It’s crazy that I moved this box that many times — it was about time to finally open it.

What a pleasure it was to rediscover some dolls I had totally forgotten about!

Here they all are now in our Blue Cottage.

Easy DIY Gallery Wall With Framed Vintage Ephemera

A few weeks ago I showed you Don’s new office nook in our bedroom.

I was so busy telling you about our fab new Sauder desk that I didn’t get to tell you about my little DIY project: the framed vintage items in the gold frames I hung on the wall.

I absolutely love vintage ephemera like postcards, number cards, bingo cards, photos, checks, and milk bottle caps.

When I wanted to add something to the office nook wall, I looked over some of the vintage ephemera I’ve collected for a while.

I have so many that I’m thinking of selling some in my Dagmar’s Home Decor Etsy store.

The note pages were a freebie, the vintage photos I bought at the Newburgh Vintage Emporium, and the sets of vintage checks and milk bottle caps are from my trip to the Country Living Fair last year. [Read more…]
