It can be hard to decide which white and gray countertops you like best — this post will give you some inspiring ideas.
We are remodeling our kitchen and decided on white cabinets.
Our wood floors are dark and the kitchen small, so I didn’t want competing brown tones.
White cabinets will make the kitchen look bigger.
We even ordered white appliances — I’m not a fan of stainless steel and this way the appliances don’t stand out.
The next decision I had to make: the color of the countertop.
White and Gray Countertops
After looking at a ton of samples at the home improvement store, I narrowed my favorite ones down to a white with few gray flecks (LG HI-MACS Solid Surface Cotton Dust) and a beige-ish color with brown flecks (allen + roth Solid Surface in Beechnut).
I requested a countertop that is super easy to maintain and won’t stain.
At fist I was voting for the beige one because of the brown wood floors, but the longer I looked at it, I decided that the white and gray countertops would be much more versatile and modern-looking for longer.
You also should also keep resale value in mind when making big home improvement decisions like countertop colors.
I definitely wanted a countertop that is mostly white but has flecks of gray because that they don’t need to be wiped down every minute and will hide a bit of dirt.
A light-colored counter also stands out less and doesn’t cut the room in half if you know what I mean.
Don was in favor of the beige countertops, but he isn’t very visual and couldn’t really picture what either one of the countertops would look like.
I wanted to convince him of my choice being the right one and went on a quest to find pictures on Pinterest of kitchens with white and gray kitchen counters.
Aren’t these kitchens gorgeous?
This happens to be Martha Stewart’s kitchen in her Bedford, NY, home, which is just around the corner from where we live in Westchester. I love the floors; they look like stones.

This marble counter is a little busy for me, but the kitchen is gorgeous.
I ended up ordering the white/gray countertop. Here is a sneak peek! I love how thick they are, and that they are not shiny. Even better: this material can take a lot of abuse.
Here is our finished kitchen. I love our countertops! The color was definitely the right choice — I’m so glad I didn’t pick the beige one.
Do you see what I STILL have to decide on for my kitchen? Help me out: what kind of backsplash would you use with these countertops?
