We escaped.
A few weekends ago, we escaped for an amazing weekend to Doral Arrowwood Hotel Conference Center in Rye Brook — just half an hour away from us.

After we got settled in, we headed down to the Atrium Restaurant for dinner. We all decided that we wanted to eat the buffet – because the choices where endless! I don’t think I’ve ever seen that many desserts at a buffet.
After dinner, Don took Landon to the pool, and I went to the Pub to have a glass of wine and to look over all of the activities they offer at Doral Arrowwood.
We spent some time at the arcade that night, enjoyed hanging out in our room, and watched TV together.
After a good night sleep, we enjoyed the yummy breakfast buffet in the Atrium Restaurant overlooking the golf course.
Then it was time for Landon to check out the indoor/outdoor pool. I knew this would be the highlight of the stay for him, because he loves swimming so much, and this pool is pretty amazing.
I actually joined Landon the next day, and we had the whole heated outdoor pool to ourselves.
After I watched Landon for a little while, I headed to the gym…
…while Don watched him.
We ordered in lunch — such a treat — Landon got to play with a Wii, we went to the arcade again, Don and Landon played basketball, and we hung out in the room until it was time for dinner.

After having dinner at the Pub, we were driven to the Blaze, where we saw 7,000 hand-carved, illuminated jack o’ lanterns. It’s so impressive!
We enjoyed this breathtaking display while walking through the 18th-century riverside landscape at the Van Cortland Manor.
There were hundreds of families there.
After enjoying donuts and hot cider, we were driven back to the hotel and fell into bed after another day full of fun activities.
We got up late, had breakfast, and went for another swim before we headed back home.
We had such a lovely weekend together that went by way too fast. We didn’t want to leave! Even though we were close to home, it was such a nice getaway.
