Remember my post about Sauder furniture? One of Sauder’s mottos is “When you thrive on thrifting — but don’t want to skimp on style.”
What could be more fitting for me? I’m thrifty but love to find affordable furniture pieces for our Blue Cottage that look much more expensive than they are, which all of the Sauder furniture do.
Even more impressive: Sauder’s furniture are eco-certified: they are made with 90 percent recyclable materials and a zero waste-to-landfill philosophy.
I had the pleasure to pick one of the Sauder furniture for the Blue Cottage, and let me tell you that was the hardest part of the whole gig: I looked over their site for days, not being able to decide on just one piece. There are too many amazing items to choose from, at incredibly low prices!
I was looking at a desk for Don, a new bed for Landon, a TV stand/entertainment unit — I just couldn’t make up my mind!
I finally decided on a practical piece we really needed for more storage: their Tall Barrister Bookcase for our little office.
One thing I wish was more clear on the site: some of the furniture I fell in love with are only available through stores, not online, and it would be great if they were on a separate page and not mixed in with all of the Sauder furniture. I really wanted a certain gray desk for Landon, but that was only available through a retailer.
The tall bookcase came a few days ago and I put it together yesterday. The box it came in was really heavy, but once Don got it inside, I was able to put it together mostly myself.
I don’t shy away from putting together furniture, that’s what makes these DIY furniture so affordable, and it only took an hour, which is how long it would’ve taken me to drive to a store and pick out a piece.
I worked on it for 30 minutes by myself, and then Don and I finished the bookcase after another 30 minutes. The instructions were great, there are videos on the Sauder’s website if you get stuck, plus they offer an award-winning, Ohio-based customer service that is always available if you have a question or need an extra piece.
I really just needed Don’s help for the side pieces and for standing up the bookcase and getting it into the office. Because it has those beautiful, thick molding pieces, it’s pretty heavy, and I didn’t want to scratch up our floor.
I filled the shelves today and am absolutely thrilled with the look. Our office is still one of the rooms that needs help, and this is motivating me now to finish it. I can’t wait to hang the curtains I already bought for it and to organize the rest.
I’ll be writing a whole separate post about it all coming together and the big reveal of the office in July.
I could use at least two more of these units. It goes with our cottage theme and is so versatile that it would work in any room.
I’d love a second one for the office and a white one for our utility room/pantry — how cute would cans look all organized in those labeled cubbies?
Are you in need of a furniture piece or not sure how to furnish your home? Sauder has dozens of affordable furniture and a great tool, Expedition Design, that helps you with selecting just the right piece or line they offer.
Like me, you’ll have a hard time selecting just one piece.
Which Sauder piece would you pick out?
