Jessica Alba and The Honest Company

I met Jessica Alba last night in New York City.

I wasn’t going to miss this event, because Hollywood mom Jessica and Christopher Gavigan launched The Honest Company — an eco-friendly line of family essentials offered through a monthly subscription service.

Jessica is a Healthy Child Healthy World ambassador and Christopher is their former CEO.

I have over the years blogged for that nonprofit (here is my post about toxic air fresheners) and mention the site all the time as the best resource I know for parents who want to find out more about eco-friendly solutions for their families. [Read more…]

Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort Bonnet Creek

Orlando’s newest family resort, the Wyndham Grand Orlando Resort Bonnet Creek, invited us to visit for a few days, and we were happy to oblige!

So we packed our suitcases with summer clothes and flew from cold Westchester, NY, to Orlando. After less than three hours we landed, and sunshine and warm weather were greeting us.

The Wyndham Grand is a lovely 400-rooms, Mediterranean-inspired resort hotel that’s located lakeside 20 minutes away from the airport. The guest rooms and suites overlook the property’s 10-acre lake and Walt Disney World parks. Everything is brand new because the resort just opened in October.

Checking in was a breeze, Landon got a goodie bag, and off we went to check out our room. This was our first family vacation to a fabulous hotel, so L was very excited.

On the 8th floor, we had the perfect view of the stunning lagoon-like pool.

Chunky Carrot Soup

I kind of just threw this carrot “soup” together today.

I didn’t record the measurements, but it includes purple kohlrabi, onion, garlic, and a ton of organic carrots that needed to be used. I also added olive oil, flaxseed oil, and Bragg liquid aminos.

I just barely covered all the vegetables with water and let is cook for a while. In the end there wasn’t a lot of liquid left, but instead of adding more, I decided to take my potato masher and mash it up a bit.

I like chunky soups, and it was delicious!

My Son Looks Like Me After All

People always tell me that Landon looks exactly like me.

I get it, but I don’t get it, to be honest. To me he looks like his own person, and I’m somehow totally removed from that.

I didn’t see me when I look at him, until this picture I took of him yesterday.

Bam!

That’s exactly what I looked like!

I don’t have a picture handy of me at 5 years old, but this was me at around 3:

In other news, I let L run around in a dirty, depressing arcade place we came across this weekend.

He was having the best time even though I refused to pay for the games, while I was trying to hold my breath because that place hadn’t been aired out in 20 years.

I made this advent calendar for Landon. Can you guess what’s in every package?

And in other news: I noticed some dry pasta sauce on the refrigerator today and started scraping it off — and covered the rest with one of Landon’s letter magnets.

Problem solved.

Happy Thanksgiving 2011

I am so, so thankful for my little boy sleeping in the next room who makes my heart explode with love every day.

Who makes himself a silly necklace with my jewelry and his toys.

I’m so thankful for my patient husband who works so hard and doesn’t like to be photographed.

I’m thankful for my wonderful mom and for having had so many years with my beloved dad.

I’m thankful for being part of the wonderful Bleasdale Clan who is always so supportive and helpful.

I’m so thankful for my family and friends, and all the friends I’ve made through blogging and Twitter.

I’m thankful that I have a job I love that never feels like a job.

I hope you have much to be thankful for and will celebrate Thanksgiving with loved ones.
