DIY Salvaged Wood Sign

On Saturday is the big day: The Newburgh Vintage Emporium is going to open.

Which means my Dagmar’s Home Decor booth — with vintage items, soy candles, and eventually painted furniture — will be open for business!

The pressure is on to finishing my booth. Fifty other vendors are also setting up their spaces, so the place has been buzzing the last few days. We are all really excited for this amazing place to be ready for customers.

I had to find an inexpensive way to outfitting my booth. After a little bit of research, I found metal shelves at Kohls that are super-easy to set up and cost under $100 each, and a carpet at KMart for only $20.

I needed a large “Dagmar’s Home Decor” sign for my booth, and I wanted to make it myself. But out of what?

And then I remembered the one piece of siding I salvaged from the little red house that used to be where the Blue Cottage now stands. [Read more…]

Gluten-Free Brownies With Chia Seeds and Apple Sauce

I made healthy, gluten-free brownies with chia seeds on Saturday for Don and L.

Gosh, they were yummy. I could only have a bite because I’m still on my whole-food cleanse.

After I posted pictures of these brownies on Instagram, I had several people ask me about them.

Being gluten-intolerant or having celiac disease is something more and more people have to deal with, and there is a big need for delicious, nutritious gluten-free recipes, so I wanted to share mine with you.

Incorporating more gluten-free products is probably a good idea for all of us since wheat is so highly processed in the U.S. I have started to buy more gluten-free products in the last few years even though L and I don’t have a problem with it. I do have a suspicion that Don does, though.

Finally: it’s time to show off the Blue Cottage with a Christmas House Tour!

I took so many pictures, there’s no space to show you every room, but you’ll get a good idea how I decorated our new home in general and then added Christmas decor.

Our living room fireplace is massive, and I’m having a lot of fun decorating it for every season.

This year I just used Christmas decorations I already had. Except for those accent pillows from Target and Country Antiques.

Oneida Flatware

Here is my latest thrifty find I’m thrilled about:

This amazing set of 71 vintage silverware pieces wasn’t just $5, but such a find!

I already owned 4 knives of this Oneida flatware — and used it in my vintage Thanksgiving table setting — and with some research I was able to find out it’s name.

It’s from 1933, but I’ll save the rest of the story of how I ended up with this whole set for a separate post. It’s too good of a story.
