My Trip to the Country Living Fair in Rhinebeck

I spent the loveliest day at the Country Living Fair in Rhinebeck last Friday.

My friend and fellow Newburgh Vintage Emporium vendor Cindy (Little Cherry Vintage) drove us up there in her shiny new CRV. My CRV is almost 20 years old and I absolutely love it, but it will be time to get a new one soon, and it was nice to ride in one.

We saw several tag sales on the way and as addicted thrifters it was really hard to keep on driving, but we were focused on getting to the Country Living Fair.

The weather was just perfect. We met up with Lynn, another Emporium vendor who is also a blogger (Fern Avenue), and we had a quick bite to eat first. I ate a yummy baked sweet potato with goat cheese and scallions. It was so good, I wanted a second one.

Lynn and I are actually going to the Haven conference together! That’s less that three weeks away, wow. I’m still in denial that L’s summer break starts in two weeks.

An Update on Our First Organic Garden

I wanted to share the progress on our organic garden! Did you read my first post about it?

After receiving Organic Choice Potting Mix and Organic Plant Food, L and I planted seeds in a starter kit to grow carrots, broccoli, and kale indoors.

We had picked up the heirloom seeds at our library’s seed library, and it wasn’t warm enough yet to start growing anything outside.

What could be more fitting for me? I’m thrifty but love to find affordable furniture pieces for our Blue Cottage that look much more expensive than they are, which all of the Sauder furniture do.

DIY Crab Costume For Halloween Or School Show

My son played a crab in a school play, so I made him this DIY crab costume. Here is the tutorial for the headpiece.

L had been practicing for a musical in school for months. He was a crab in this story of animals in the sea, and I had to come up with a costume.

Instead of buying a crab costume, I decided to make one myself. You could obviously make this DIY crab headpiece for Halloween as well.

I kept it simple and thrifty: I found red jeans and a red, long-sleeved T-shirt at Once Upon a Child.

Dagmar’s Home Featured in Westchester Magazine

I was featured in the May 2014 issue of Westchester Magazine, how cool is that?

We moved to Westchester, NY, seven years ago from Los Angeles and I love living here, surrounded by Don’s large family. He grew up here and his mom and three sisters and most of L’s many cousins live only 10 minutes away from us.

Westchester is beautiful and has so much to offer, and raising L so close to family is ideal.

I subscribe to Westchester Magazine and it’s pretty cool to leaf through it and find something written about my blog.
