Blue Cottage Decor: Our Living Room
After I wrote about Landon’s turquoise room, our kitchen and our powder room, it’s time to show you our living room.
You’ve seen parts of it in several posts, but I’ve never written a post about the whole room.

After I wrote about Landon’s turquoise room, our kitchen and our powder room, it’s time to show you our living room.
You’ve seen parts of it in several posts, but I’ve never written a post about the whole room.
We have a little powder room next to our kitchen, and I wanted to share what it looks like right now. I don’t think I’ve ever shown you the whole room before!
Don added wainscoting to it per my request, and I painted it a super-light pink.
The whole room is decorated with inexpensive items. The sink cabinet and vintage-inspired faucet are from Lowes, and I just exchanged the knobs to vintage glass knobs. I also bought the floor tiles at Lowes, and Don put them down in both bathrooms.
The mirror is an antique store find, and I bought that little white shelf three years ago for $3 at a tag sale. I want to repaint it with white chalk paint eventually — the off-white doesn’t really work in this room.
A few weeks ago I spent the most wonderful weekend in Colonial Williamsburg, VA. I shot so many photos, over 500, and it took quite a while to edit them down, but I can’t wait to share them with you.
Benjamin Moore invited me to learn more about the 144 hues of Benjamin Moore’s Colonial Williamsburg Color Collection.
My friend Lynn came with me, and we flew from Westchester, NY, to Richmond, VA, on Friday morning.
We were greeted by a chauffeur who drove us to the Williamsburg Lodge. Benjamin Moore really rolled out the red carpet for us.
My Tour of Vern Yip’s NYC Apartment
A few months ago I was invited to meet designer and HGTV star Vern Yip and tour his NYC apartment.
He worked together with the Portuguese Cork Flooring Association (APCOR) and redesigned his NYC apartment with a fashion-forward combination of cork flooring, along with beautiful fabrics and fresh paint colors.
Vern was eager to talk about this eco-friendly and beautiful flooring option, and I wanted to learn more about it!
I’ve watched Vern on TV for years, and who wouldn’t want to talk with such a talented designer?
I didn’t know what to expect, how big the apartment would be, or if there would be other bloggers. I got dressed up, got into the car they had sent, and off I went.
Have you ever wondered about installing solar panels on your house?
As someone who is passionate about green and sustainable living, I have. Wouldn’t it be amazing if you could make your own electricity with the power of the sun?
Solar has become so much more affordable by now; in fact my brother-in-law and sister-in-law are in the process of having solar panels installed on their house.
When I visit my family in Germany, I see solar panels everywhere — Germany is really committed to renewable energy and leading the world with producing 30 percent of their electricity with solar.
We would love to have them as well, but unfortunately our house is surrounded by tall trees that don’t let enough sun on the roof.
Do you want to find out if solar panels would work for your house? Sunrun wants you to know that getting solar panels isn’t just for millionaires, and they are happy to assist you with any questions you have. [Read more…]
