I promised you a post about my mother’s cottage garden when I ran out of time writing about my mom’s many antique collections in her house, and I figured Sunday is a good day to post it.

I’m back from the Haven blogging conference and had an amazing time, like last year. I learned so much more about blogging and social media, and how to grow Dagmar’s Home.
I flew from Westchester directly to Atlanta last Thursday.
After I check into the Hyatt, I met my roommate — sweet Jennifer Dawn who writes The Life of Jennifer Dawn.
We had found each other through the Haven Mavens Facebook group, where I posted that I was looking for a roommate. Haven is more fun with a roommate.
I freshened up, and I went to the reception.
I chatted with a few bloggers while we were in line waiting to get drinks…

We are back in New York, but I have many more pictures of our visit to Bremen, Germany, my hometown.
After we stayed with my friend Karen on her farm in the country, we took the train back to Bremen, where my mom picked us up.
Her sister also came into town for the day, and we all met up with my brother Oliver in the town center.
My brother is a tour guide and offers several walking tours of places in the center of Bremen. He had offered to give us a tour of the Marketplace and the Schnoor, two of my favorite spots in Bremen.
It’s time for an update on our Blue Cottage garden landscaping!
I took pictures of it before I left for our trip to Germany, and I planned to write the post there, but we were so busy every day that I didn’t get around to it.
Plus, I hardly ever take a vacation, and I wanted some days off.
I finally caught up on some sleep, the suitcases are packed away again, and now I’m all fired up to show you how our landscaping is coming along.
Do you remember what our house looked like last fall? Here is a reminder from when I wrote a post about our porch.
The “landscaping” was literally only the weeds that grew.

I have to be honest: this post was going to be named My Mom’s House and Cottage Garden.
But after I started writing it, it became clear that I had to rename it. I had so much material about my parents’ many collections of antiques and vintage items alone, this post would’ve been way too long to also write about the garden.
We came back from visited my mom in Germany a couple of days ago. I made a point to take a lot of pictures of her house because it’s beautiful, and I wanted to show it to you.
She still lives in the house I grew up in until age 23. That’s when I packed two suitcases and moved from my childhood home all the way to Los Angeles to study acting. [Read more…]
