I named our house the Blue Cottage for a reason.
I called it a cottage because it’s small. Not Manhattan apartment small, but small because there’s three of us and we happen to have a lot of things that need to fit into a house.
Okay, so I’m a bit of a furniture and home decor hoarder. And boxes full of vintage dishes, DIY supplies, interior design magazines, every letter and card I’ve received in the last 20 years, and Landon’s first clothes.
Plus, between the three of us we probably own 400 books.
I love our house, but it doesn’t have a basement or a garage — not even a shed. And Don being a finish carpenter and contractor, he doesn’t have space for all of his saws, tools, and supplies.
Things were always piling up on our porch, to the point where I installed curtains to keep the rain off of all the things that were stored there so they wouldn’t get ruined.

I felt like making muffins yesterday, so Landon and I got busy in the kitchen.
Instead of buying a packaged mix from the store, I like throwing things together at home because those boxed mixes are usually filled with gene-manipulated ingredient I want to avoid.
I could buy organic muffin or cake mixes, but they are pretty pricey, and I usually have the ingredients I need at home.
When I say throwing together, I mean it – when it comes to baking, I usually don’t use a recipe and make it up as I go.
