Create this fun DIY pool party game with plastic cups and balls in minutes, and have fun for hours.
Summer has finally arrived. We somehow skipped spring here in New York — sadly, it was only about a few weeks long — and the warm weather meant it was time to find our summer clothes and put away the warmer clothes.
As you can see, my son is ready for summer!

We don’t have a pool in the yard, which my son would be in all the time because he loves to swim, but as I’ll show you, this DIY party pool game also works if you only have a small kiddie pool.
This is a fun game I thought of that the whole family can enjoy all summer. If you have a pool, put the cups in there, or play it on the grass with a kids pool.
When thinking of a fun summer activity, I wanted to incorporate items I already had at home, and this is what I came up with:
DIY Pool Party Game
Do you know that carnival game where you throw little balls into bowls to win a goldfish?
I had plastic cups, wiffle balls, ping pong balls, and plastic plant saucers, so I thought, why not put cups on plant saucer, float it in the pool, and have the kids or the whole family try to toss balls into them?
You could also use a lightweight plastic tray instead of the saucer.
- Attach the cups to the plant charger with double-stick tape.
- I doubled up the plant charger to make it a bit sturdier.
- If you have all the same cups, mark one with a black rim and make that the one the players can win a prize for, or make that one the player gets the most points for. I used one red cup and six green cups, but you can also use cups with even more colors.
Here is what the game looks like when set up. Super easy to put together, and super fun!
Depending on the age of the kids, they can use the bigger or smaller balls, and you could have the young ones be closer to the game and older kids further away to make the game more fair.
Make up the rules as you go and have fun with friends and family!
