Shabby chic kitchens are just lovely — so cozy and inviting. Get inspired by these decor ideas if you consider this style. I’ll show you how I incorporated some of them into my farmhouse/cottage kitchen.
Shabby chic decor often starts out with a lot of white, and then you decorate with soft pinks and vintage, chippy treasures or dainty flower patterns or lace.
Let me show you what I mean:
Oh, is there anything more lovely than a shabby chic kitchen?
When I got early access to Pinterest many years ago, a whole new world opened up for me.
Instead of ripping pages out of magazines, which I did all the time, I started pinning pictures of things and ideas I love to my 200+ boards.
My shabby chic board grows with more ideas all the time.
A lot of shabby chic and chippy kitchen ideas also have elements of farmhouse or cottage decor. They even work well with a more modern style.
I’m a big believer of buying items that speak to you and creating your own style by surrounding yourself with decor you love. Even if its not all farmhouse or shabby chic decor, it will work together just fine because you like all of the items.

Shabby Chic Kitchen Decor Ideas
First rule of shabby chic decor: lots of white! So white cabinets for sure, like these:
A shabby chic kitchen calls for furniture pieces and decor with chippy paint like this bench.
One easy way to achieve that: repaint a furniture piece you already have white with chalk paint that doesn’t require any sanding or stripping.
Then use sand paper to sand down some spot to create the chippy look. I painted my chairs I use in the kitchen like that.
This is a beautiful little hutch I’d love to have space for in my farmhouse kitchen:
I like that anything vintage looking works in a shabby chic kitchen, even anything that isn’t in perfect condition. You can buy any vase or container or little shelf at a thrift store and paint it white for added accents.
I have a farmhouse sink like this one in my Blue Cottage — it’s the one thing I insisted on in the whole house.
When you order one, make sure you get free shipping — these sinks are very heavy! I ordered a fireclay farmhouse sink because it’s so durable.
This sink is reversible — check out the other side!
A chandelier in the kitchen? Yes, please!
The wood accents on the island and the hood also add to this style of kitchen. Now I’m thinking of adding wooden appliques to my range hood. You can get these and others on Amazon for not much money. It’s such an easy update!
This chandelier would be my choice — can you believe it’s under $100?
I bought a similar one and added it to my staircase.
I absolutely love little shelves like these. It’s wall art and adds more storage space. I appreciate any extra space to display my many vintage items.
My parents had an antique store and were collectors of many things, and I definitely inherited that bug. I love vignettes of things, like creamers and bowls on open shelves.
I have a collections of Green Gate cups in my shabby chic kitchen, for example.
Shabby chic farmhouse decor means soft, often pink colors. So adding canisters or a cake stand or a few cups in pastel colors in an easy way to add to the shabby chic flair.
I have a thing for chippy, painted wood floors. If my floors don’t look so nice any longer in a few years, I would totally consider painting them white. I don’t even care if some of the paint gets chipped off at some point — that just adds to the charm.
I hope you enjoyed these decorating ideas and that they inspire you to restyle your own kitchen, with just a few more accent pieces or something larger like a hutch or this console table I added to my kitchen to show off my vintage dishes.
