I started decorating for the holidays, but before I show you my Christmas Home Tour, here are some beautiful Christmas cottage decor ideas I have been inspired by.
This Christmas, I want to go for a simpler style — I can usually not help myself to use every last ornament we have on our Christmas tree.
Well, I don’t have it in my heart to stop Landon from hanging every last ornament on the tree, because he loves trimming the tree so much. So we usually end up with a very colorful tree.
My goal for this year is to decorated more sparingly first, take the pictures for the Home Tour, and then let him go to town. We’ll see how that works out.
But to be fair, the rest of the Blue Cottage usually also overflows with Christmas decor, and that is all my doing.
This is how I decorated our living room for Christmas last year.
I’ve been very inspired by the following images Christmas cottage decor, and they all have one thing in common — they are not dripping with Christmas sweetness.
I already decided on a theme for this year and can’t wait to reveal it, but first, I hope you will enjoy these photos.
Beautiful Christmas Cottage Decor
The tiles of this fireplace are a bit too modern for my taste, but the Christmas decor is just perfect.

These white Christmas stockings are adorable. Here are similar ones:
This example shows you how just adding a bit of greenery can make for simple and lovely Christmas cottage decor.
I love everything about this look: all that white, the stunning chandelier, and the naked Christmas tree with the chunky throw as a tree skirt.
I couldn’t find a similar chunky Christmas tree skirt, but here is a throw you could wrap around the bottom of the tree.
I also really like this affordable tree skirt. I love the vintage look of it.
Here is another picture from Dreamy Whites: this little tree in a bottle and crate is so sweet! It’s so simple, and you can decorate it in any style you like.
I created a similar tiny “Christmas tree” using greenery from our trees and a mason jar years ago for my bedroom.
And last year I made a little tree for our kitchen, with just one ornament:
This is an elegant idea my friend Yvonne created in her Stone Gable kitchen.
Now, isn’t this cute? Anyone can replicate this little tree in a bowl — and I just might with my milk glass collection.
Here is another idea I might use: replacing the apples I usually have on my vintage scale in the kitchen with greenery and tree ornaments.
Less is more sometimes, right? I’m trying to keep that in mind this year.
Vintage scales can cost a lot of money. Here is a replica one whole looks just as nice for a super affordable price!
I also like this idea: paint a cheap plate with chalkboard paint and draw mistletoe on it.
If you are not a great artist, check out Pinterest for something easy you can copy, like this image of Christmas trees.
All of these decor ideas obviously also work if you want to decorate in the farmhouse look.
I hope you’ll come back soon to check out the Blue Cottage Christmas Home Tour of this year!
