Wordless Wednesday — Sandy Update: We Lost Power

by Dagmar Bleasdale on October 29, 2012

preparation for Hurricane Sandy: filled the bathtub with waterI took Landon to a fast-food restaurant I usually avoid so he can play and I can write my Wordless Wednesday post.

I was in a better mood hours ago when I wrote this post — Getting Ready for Hurricane Sandy, and Kind Of Enjoying It — but I’m already over it.

Sandy is still not even here yet. I had hope we’d sleep through a lot of it last night.

But we already lost power this morning.

A tree fell on power lines down the street and cut off our neighborhood. And I just heard that the power company won’t even try to fix it before Sandy arrives.

They are going to wait until Sandy is all over. Which could be days. And by then they’ll have so much to fix, who knows when they’ll get to restoring power for us.

Looks like I might need to use many of my soy candles. Good thing I made plenty, but they were supposed to be for the three craft fairs I’m getting ready for.

Hurrican Sandy, power outage, burning candle

We can’t flush the toilet, we can’t open the fridge, I can’t blog, there is no heat or TV in the house — for possible a week.

Lovely.

Tomorrow is Landon’s 6th birthday and our 7th anniversary.

We’ll make the best of it, but I’m not looking forward to how cold the house will be by then.

Landon didn’t have school today and won’t tomorrow, and I wouldn’t be surprised if his birthday party on Sunday also has to get canceled.

I’m hoping for the best for the next few days. If you are in Sandy’s path, please be safe!

If you don’t see me make the rounds on Wordless Wednesday, you’ll know why :) This might be the last time for a few days I can get Internet access for my computer. At least I’ll still have my phone to tweet and Instagram.

Let’s get Wordless!

I hope you get power back soon. We’re watching all the news reports from the UK, looks like it has hit some places very badly. :(

I was going to say the candle looks very romantic but I suspect with loss of power that is very far from your mind right now. Stay safe and I hope you get some light and heat back very soon

Thank goodness for those soy candles! Hope the power outage is the only thing you’re dealing with at this point. It could always be so much worse.

And I totally get it. We went days without power during an ice storm. I was pregnant with my youngest, had to use a walker because I developed a disabling condition and we were huddling together just trying to stay warm. Hope you’ve got a fire going and are comfortable.

I remember that, that was so horrendous and much worse than our situation. Been at a fast food restaurant half the day, now heading home to dark and cold house. We’ll just get warm in bed, the three if us, and hope to get power back tomorrow.

Sure hoping you get power on soon. It’s only fun for a minute…if that, I know.
