The new InnoTab 2, a multi-media tablet for kids 3-9 years old, is like an iPad — at least Landon calls it that. He thinks it’s pretty cool to have his own.
Besides programs for coloring and games, it’s an e-reader, MP3player, and art studio — and it features a new rotating camera and video recorder so kids can capture pictures and videos of themselves and others.
InnoTab 2 includes 2 GB onboard memory with SD card slot for up to 32 GB of memory, and can be expanded with 200 additional apps, and yet it costs only what the first version cost, $79.99.
The video camera is Landon’s favorite feature. He’s started to make little videos of himself, which I think is great, but the picture quality isn’t that good. When he records inside, the video is so dark that you can hardly see it, which is too bad because he shot some cute videos. He hasn’t tried making one outside yet.
The art studio has more features that any other device like this we’ve tried, and includes many choices for colors, paint brushes, and “stickers.”
And of course L zeroed in on this fun game: he likes the motion game of this little guy who tries to stay on a tightrope. Your child can add his or her face to the person, or choose from a few premade characters. I just wish this game had some educational value :) L has advanced to I don’t know what level by now, he’s played it that many times.
I feel about the InnoTab 2 like I feel about all of these electronic devices for kids: as a parent, you have to stay on top of what your child is actually using it for. If he or she just uses it for coloring or playing games, then they need to be encouraged to actually use the educational games and the e-reader to help with their education.
