I have to be honest: I have been on a thrifting high.
Partly because I’m looking for items for the gift baskets I want to make for Christmas and for cups I can make into my vintage candles, partly because I’m inspired by Rhoda’s Thrifty Treasures posts, and because I just have so much fun finding things others would pay a lot more money for.
Just yesterday I came across a yard sale and snagged some great vintage items, and today I bought a couple of things at one of my favorite thrift stores. I usually don’t spend more than a few dollars, though.
Last week I went to our local Goodwill store and scored some amazing cups and other containers I want to make into candles.
I was ready to leave when I stopped dead in my tracks:
How much? Sixty dollars. For the whole set — four chairs, the table, and the leaf. These would be stunning in a white, shabby chic finish and with new seat covers. I could already see it.
Sixty! I looked at the table a little closer and cold tell it was old and well-made. The cane backs of the chairs were in perfect condition.
But I didn’t have space for them or a place to refinish them. Oh, I was bummed! And then I thought, maybe my girlfriend Heather would let me store them in her basement…
I texted her and she texted back: “Buy them!” We both have the same decorating taste and like to find bargains like this, so she gets it that one just has to jump on an opportunity like this.
Just has to. Even when one doesn’t need another chair in one’s life.
Plus, it was my birthday, and dang it, I just wanted to treat myself. So I paid and took home my cups and two of the chairs because that’s all I could fit into the car.
And I called Don to tell him the good news of another table and set of chairs in our lives.
“Don, guess what you bought me for my birthday!”
