Like Instagram? Then You’ll Love the Picfx Photo App

I clicked on the description and it mentioned that it’s an app that makes only square pictures. That’s what got me hooked — the square shape is what I love about Instagram. It’s perfect for the thumbnails — no more editing every individual picture!

I already wrote a tutorial about my favorite Instagram filters with before and after pictures, take a look.

I bought the Picfx app for $1.99, grabbed a few pictures I already had on my camera roll, and experimented.

Picfx has so many more options than Instagram — 100 effects, textures and frames that can be added on top of each other. Compared to the Snapseed app, this one is easier to figure out and more intuitive.

Here are a few examples of what is possible with Picfx. This was the original:

landscape photo by Dagmar Bleasdale edited with Picfx appHere is the picture with a green hue. You could obviously go totally crazy and put a red hue over it, or do all kinds of other things, but I didn’t want to change this picture too much.

landscape photo by Dagmar Bleasdale edited with Picfx appThe next thing I found and just had to try is the Bokeh filters in the “Light” folder. Who needs an expensive cameras and years of photography experience when you can add Bokeh’s with a click! This was the original:

photo by Dagmar Bleasdale edited with Picfx appThe last thing I tried out was the frames. I like the frame on the Kelvin Instagram filter, but messes up the colors of the picture. I like the Picfx option a lot better, to put a frame on the picture you edited to your desire.
