Wordless Wednesday — Mammogram and More

by Dagmar Bleasdale on August 21, 2012

Nervous…

A day before I left for BlogHer, I finally had my mammogram appointment. I had had one last year but they wanted me to also get an ultrasound — and I never did.

I made the appointment twice and then couldn’t make it. After my friend Kristi went through an awful scare about a lump she found in her breast, and my girlfriend in Germany was just diagnosed with breast cancer, I was kind of glad that I finally got myself checked out.

But then they wanted two more pictures.

And then another two.

Sure, shmusch my little breasts some more.

Then they did the ultrasound, but after getting those pictures looked over, the main doctor came in again to check out two spots in particular she had circled on the printout.

This is me trying to distract myself, waiting. Look at that, cheekbones!

I get a kick out of how much I look like my mom in this picture. She has amazing cheekbones, which I only have when I’m lying down, lol!

The final result was that there are two spots that look benign but need to be looked at again in three months.

I won’t miss that appointment.

I hope you are having a blast the last few days of summer! Landon is learning to horseback ride! What have you been up to? I wrote two more posts about BlogHer’12: and an Instagram tutorial:

good for you that you finally got up the courage to go…they really need to come up with a better system for those darn mammograms, don’t they? make sure you mark down your next appointment on your calendar!

Thank you for sharing your experiences. Good job for finally making your appointment. May the 3 month appointment go equally well. I recently had a mammogram and ultrasound. All turned out well, but if you are curious I blogged my thoughts about the process here: http://www.astridbryce.com/blog/being-me-lumpy-breasts-and-all/ It is mostly an inspiring story about my brother’s experience with testicular cancer. I hope you find it equally inspiring.

Hopefully all will be fine when you go back. Breast cancer runs in my family, sadly on my maternal side, so I’ve been through a scan or two, and had a needle biopsy done on a lump a few years ago. These things can be so nerve wracking and the tests aren’t exactly fun, I know, but it is better to get checked out. Breastfeeding was important to me, apart from the feeding the baby bit, because it can help to reduce some of the risk of breast cancer.
