Don has also been working on Saturdays lately, so Sundays are extra special to me. After we all had to get up early yesterday, long story, we slept in today and Don suggesting to go to Cold Spring.
You don’t have to mention that twice to me! As you know, I love that little town right on the Hudson River because it’s home to many antique stores — and Hudson Hil’s restaurant where we always eat breakfast.
Well, brunch today.
After a fight in the car (okay, so marriage isn’t easy, noticed that?), Don and I pulled it together and had a nice discussion about our secret project (psst!). I love brainstorming with him about it, just can’t share it with you here (yet).
It has to do with something we are both very interested in and can bring different ideas to based on our skill sets.
Then Don and L walked to the end of Main Street to see the Hudson River and the old cannon, and I got to sniff around in the antique stores.
When I saw this gorgeous old wooden wheelbarrow, I immediately wanted it. Originally priced $245, the lady would’ve given it to me for $175, but in the end I decided against. Anyone in the market for it?
Another beauty, I love the blue paint, but I have no business buying large furniture pieces.
Are those molds for hot dogs? Corn dogs? Corn?
The only picture I got of myself the whole day. I never thing to ask Don to take one.
I had never been in this store before. They carry a wonderful selection of new and old home decor items. I might have to go back for one of their unique lighting fixtures.
And I found a store that carries beautiful vintage fabric samples, so I know where to go when I want to upholster something like a chair or bench. I don’t think the samples were big enough to make over the inside of the large trunk I bought for only $5 the other day, but the plan is to line it with pretty fabric to make it usable.
Right now the inside looks like this — *shudder*
But trust me, it has potential. The outside is beautifully, at least to this vintage lover, with some original mailing labels.
After sharing a fresh-squeezed lemonade, we headed back home.
We made one stop; Don wanted to get corn for tonight’s dinner at Grandma’s. Note that I was able to get three picture of my extremely camera-shy husband, a rare feat. But I had to be sneaky and fast, as you can see.
Sure, after pancakes with syrup, OJ, and a lemonade, let’s top off the sugar fest with a sugar donut!
I linked up this post to Rhoda’s fabulous blog Southern Hospitality. I met Rhoda this weekend at BlogHer and it was such a pleasure to chat with her and see her speak in one of the sessions!
Rhoda runs a weekly post called Thrifty Treasures, and I plan to link up to it more often now. I find thrifty treasures all the time!

What a fun way to spend the day. And I think the weather’s perfect too.
HI, Dagmar, it was a pleasure to meet you too, you’re so cute & friendly. Love your antique outing, looks like a great place to shop. Your family is adorable! Glad to have you linking up to my party today. (oh but, I’m Southern Hospitality, instead of Southern Living, the magazine). :)
Really enjoyed our chat too & hopefully you’ll incorporate more decorating on your blog, you’ll enjoy the community of DIYer’s out there.
Hi Rhoda,
I don’t know why I wrote Southern Living, must have been really tired. So sorry about that mistake! Fixed it right away. I love your blog and will check in more often now to see what you are up to. I really want to make it to the next Haven conference, sounds like heaven — decorating and blogging.
Those are cast iron pans for making corn sticks i.e. corn bread sticks instead of muffins or a whole pan of corn bread. Must be seasoned but they give the whole things a terrific crust.
What a gorgeous place! Oh I would love to spend the day there…
Oh, that sounds like a perfect day out. I’m intrigued by the moulds. I can only guess sausages? Cannoli?
Sounds like a really fun day! We are going to be touring a local community garden today and visiting a local farmers market which is run by teenagers (it’s part of a program run by Chicago Botanic Garden, how neat is that?).
Sounds like a lovely day. We spent the day driving our girls to sleepaway camp. Two camps, same drop off times at the opposite ends of our state. Long day!
That does sound like a long day :)
Looks like a great day!
I think the molds are for cornbread..I believe I had some that look like ears of corn when they bake. Could be wrong.
Love that corner cabinet too, but no room :(
I love reading your posts! You have such a knack for sharing just the right things (a spat, great antiques, and yummy food)! I am at home tonight with kids finally in bed, working on dreaded paperwork, it was wonderful to read this post and feel as if I got away for a little bit:)
Your comment made my day, thanks for leaving it :) Sometimes I wonder what people think reading my blog posts; I’m glad you enjoyed it.
I’ve heard of Cold Spring before but never been. Your post makes me want to grab the husband, the kids and take a ride there. Maybe next weekend.
Do it, you’ll love it! Just to be safe, make a reservation for Hudson Hil’s, they are popular :) Let me know what you think!
Mondays a lot of the antique stores might be closed, but I’m not sure. If you live nearby, there is a train that takes you directly to Cold Spring. We’ve taken it from Croton on Hudson. Makes the trip even more fun for my son.
The iron molds you are talking about are for making individual corn bread muffins.
The long ones? Really? Thanks :)
