Recounting the third day of our Germany trip:
After breakfast, Landon and I drove with Nani to the local supermarket to get our usual stash of candy and chocolate we always bring back to America. I couldn’t help but take a picture of L in front of the Wurst (sausage) section and the long aisle dedicated only to gummi bears and licorice.

There must be fifty different kinds of gummi bears in Germany, and I love them all! I grabbed about twenty bags of them plus pounds of chocolate, and as always the checkout lady gave me a weird look. Yes, most of it I will eat (Don will help), although I always have good intentions to give it all away to friends and the Bleasdale clan. That’s why you will see me gain a few pounds AFTER I come back from my trips to Germany. (People wonder why I still breastfeed — self-preservation! If nursing wouldn’t burn extra calories, I’d be as big as a house the way I eat.)

Being the good Americans we are, we had a quick McDonald’s kids meal in the supermarket, and after L took the vacuum for another spin…

…we went upstairs to take a nap. We had to get some energy for the cake that would be served at the neighbors across the streets from my parents, who had invited us. The young couple has twins a little older than L and my parents have kind of adopted them because their only grandchild lives 3000 miles away.
Finn and Jannik pushed L around on their Trecker…

…L made friends with a cat…

…and a little boy…

…before it was time for yummy home-made strawberry cake and Butterkuchen. Butter cake? Yes, please!

After a few hours of fun with the twins, we had dinner with Opa (yes, you don’t stop eating in Germany) and Nani played with L a bit before –

…another successful day in Bremen came to a close.

You are just as bad as me!! When I go to France, or the UK, I always come back with a suitcase of chocolate, cookies, grenadine etc. If they would let me, I would also come back with saucisson (French dried sausage). Unfortunately I’m not nursing anymore so I gain the weight AND keep it!
I visited Germany twice when some good friends of mine were stationed there and I absolutely loved it! I loved the food, the beer, the Bavarian countryside…and yes, the candy assortment! I brought back all kinds of chocolate bars and Kinder-Eggs with me and I know my friends stocked up on gummy candies of all types when they left the country. I was so excited when Ritter brand candy bars became available here in Hawaii. It’s just not the same as buying and eating them on vacation though. :-)
