Landon got to do something very exiting today: he got to see Daddy at work and drive a big tractor/construction vehicle/excavator . . . I give up. I have no idea what machine that was; I even tried to find out the correct name for it by looking it up in one of Landon’s construction truck books, but no luck. Whatever it was, it was yellow and humungous, and of course Don let Landon play with it!
We drove to Connecticut where Don is currently doing the outside trim job on a new house. The weather could not have been nicer. When we got there, we had a quick lunch with Daddy. I had made an extra sandwich because I knew Landon would want some of it if Daddy was eating it.

And then Landon could not be held back anymore and wanted to see that Trecker (tractor) Daddy had talked about. So we went to the backyard and it must have been like heaven for Landon. There were three big construction vehicles.

Don got into that nameless machine with Landon and they took it for a quick spin.

Yes, that is my baby in there.

Well, they drove it about 20 feet back and forth, really slow. Landon loved it, of course, and I kept yelling to be careful. While I am yelling I am thinking to myself, “Why do I bother, they can’t hear me over all that noise this monstrosity makes anyway!” But I can’t help it.
It is so interesting to me how different men and women parent. Don keeps insisting to show Landon all his drills and saws and nail guns, yet what kind of mother wouldn’t freak out about that a little!? What is it with men’s need to introduce their kids to dangerous things? I’m all for moms and dads exposing their children to different experiences, but nail guns for a toddler? Oy…

Anyway, Daddy was the hero today, Landon got to move the loader thingy on the big machine all by himself, I got to see him all happy and proud and bought an ice cream cone from McDonalds on the way home, so we all had a great day. What more could you want?

That’s very cool, I don’t think my dad would have taken us to his workplace on a day like that! I can imagine how your son loved the day out, I know little boys are fascinated by massive machines and dirt so that would have been perfect for him.
I would be nervous too. Looks like he had fun though!
Very cool! I remember my sons always wanting to go down the street to see the house that was being built. We would sit on the sidewalk across the street and just watch it all!
Wow! What a lucky little chap. My son had his first go on big boy toys a few years back when he rode his Granddad’s tractor. My father-in-law works on a dairy farm and Kieran, too, loved the experience.
very cute pics!!
Dagmar,
Really loved this blog and the corresponding pictures! You hit on a universal truth! Most boys turn popsicle sticks into guns.
So it must be hard wiring!
Big hug,
Lisa
What a wonderful day he must have had with his Daddy!
Cars were my Dad’s thing and I can remember vividly the moments where he showed me cars and what they were and working in his garage while he attempted to show me all he could. Very special moments indeed.
Thank you for sharing! Here’s to many more great days for Landon with Mommy and Daddy. :)
