Ha, I guess I was on to something when I posted yesterday’s post about the benefits for mothers when they are breastfeeding! Today the New York Times published a related article, “Breast-Feeding Benefits Mothers, Study Finds.”

It mentions that women who breastfeed more than a year “were 20 percent less likely to have diabetes, 12 percent less likely to have hypertension, 19 percent less likely to have high cholesterol and 9 percent less likely to have had a heart attack or a stroke…” All good reasons to breastfeed, right?

Another reason (at least for me)? These kinds of sweet moments:

When Landon was nursing tonight, he stopped and stared at my breast. He started waving at it and said, “Hello, baba!” and gave it a kiss. Aww . . . When he had had enough, he sat up and said, “That good baba!” with the biggest milky grin on his face!

I was very skeptical of breastfeeding before I gave birth to my first child. It took 2 months, but I have learned to love it.

I now want to breastfeed for longer than a year for sure! Thanks for the post because breastfeeding can be difficult and it helps to hear how great it is for Mom’s and babies.

Plus, I agree… when your baby looks up at you and smiles with a milky grin- there is nothing better in the world!
